Nova Scotia PCs lead NDP at Beginning of Campaign

October 31, 2024 (Toronto, ON) – A new Liaison Strategies poll for the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) finds the Nova Scotia PCs leading the NDP at the start of the snap election campaign.

Conducted from October 28-29, 2024, using interactive voice response technology, the Liaison poll surveyed 701 Nova Scotia voters. The margin of error for the poll is +/- 3.7%, 19 times out of 20. Liaison is a member of the Canadian Research Insights Council (CRIC).

"If Undecided were a political party, it would be leading," said David Valentin, Principal at Liaison Strategies. "34% of Nova Scotians are undecided right now - which is both surprising as that rate is rather high for a provincial survey, but also not surprising given there was a snap election called. Pollsters usually express support for parties using 'decided and leaning' numbers, but it's important here to note the undecided rate is high."

"Among those who are decided the PCs are more or less where they were in 2020 (38%) while the NDP are in second (29%) and the Liberals follow three points behind in third (26%). A key question for the NDP will be whether they have room to grow or whether they are simply re-capturing most of their vote from 2020 - their 19% among all voters is right around the neighbourhood of the 21% they captured last election".

"In Halifax the PCs and NDP are effectively tied (35%-33% respectively), while outside the Halifax Regional Municipality the PCs lead by 16 points (42%-26%, with 25% for the Liberals)."

"As always the trendline is more important than any one survey so we will be keeping an eye on Nova Scotia to see how numbers shift during the campaign" concluded Valentin.
