Everything You Need to Know About the Liaison Daily Tracker

Welcome to the Liaison press microsite, where we share polling data and key insights.
I’m David Valentin, and I lead Liaison’s public opinion research unit. This is actually the second polling firm I’ve co-founded—the first was Mainstreet Research back in 2013, where I served as Executive Vice-President for six years.
With the federal election underway, I wanted to answer some common questions about our daily tracking survey.
What is the Liaison/NEPMCC Daily Tracking Poll?
Most of our public polling, including the daily tracker, is conducted for the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC). NEPMCC is a non-profit industry association representing Canada’s ethnic media, from Italian newspapers to Spanish radio stations, Tamil weekly magazines, internet shows, TV broadcasts, and more.
Our tracking survey operates on a three-day rolling average. Each day, we add 500 new interviews and remove the oldest 500, keeping the total sample size consistent at 1,500. Here’s how it works:
- Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday → Published Thursday
- Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday → Published Friday
- And so on.
This method ensures a steady, up-to-date reflection of voter sentiment.
How Do We Know the Polling is Accurate?
Great question! We take pride in our track record, which recently includes:
British Columbia (2024)

Nova Scotia (2024)

And most recently Ontario (2025), where we were the most accurate pollster of the election.

Every poll comes with a margin of error. For example, if a poll reports the Conservative Party at 38% with a margin of error (MoE) of ±2, this means their actual support could range anywhere from 36% to 40%.
Is the Liaison/NEPMCC Polling Funded by the Government?
No. Despite misinformation spread by bad actors, our polling is not government-funded.
NEPMCC administers the Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) on behalf of the Government of Canada. As stated on the government website:
To protect the independence of the press, seven not-for-profit organizations representing different segments of the news industry administer the Initiative. These organizations distribute funding to Canadian media organizations to support local civic journalism in underserved communities.
NEPMCC's role is strictly administrative—it does not retain these funds. The program is audited, and none of the money is used for polling. All funding goes directly to eligible Canadian media organizations to hire journalists or pay freelancers to produce civic journalism for underserved communities.
What standards does Liaison follow?
We are part of the Canadian Insights Research Council (CRIC), Canada's polling industry association. You can learn more about the industry standards we follow here. CRIC also has a primer on election polling you can read here.
Should You Trust Liaison Polling?
In every election I've worked on as a pollster, supporters of the party trailing in the polls always find reasons to claim the numbers are "fake," "rigged," or "biased."
If you're looking for a reason to dismiss Liaison polling—or any polling at all—you'll likely find one. But the reality is, our track record speaks for itself.
Does Liaison publish riding projections?
No, but many aggregators and analysts do. You can review their work—just remember that riding projections are not the same as riding-level polls.
Why Haven't I Been Called for a Liaison Survey? Can I Participate?
Our phone surveys use random selection, so there’s no way to opt in. If you're chosen, we’d greatly appreciate your participation! However, with 27,642,171 eligible voters in Canada and only 500 completed interviews needed each day, the odds of being selected are quite low.
Does Liaison Call Cell Phones?
Yes, we do!
